This cache is placed in celebration of an FTF I claimed after a lot of hard work nearby. I had tried for this cache 5 times before being able to claim it. Sometimes because I simply could not find it and other times because the premises was closed off.I decided to place a cache that's accessible even if the local monument is closed but that doesn't mean that you don't have to work for it.
One of my favourite aspects about Winburg is why it has two really pretty big churches two blocks apart in a town that never really expanded much. Turns out that deep in the sauce of Winburg lay those who weren't exactly happy fighting for the allies during the first world war and the first shots ot the Maritz rebellion were fired nearby. By 1919, a separist church developed and was having services in the town hall. Same church nad religious beliefs; just that some favoured the politics of Jan Smuts and others DF Malan. This separist church was later named Rietfontein after the farm which Winburg was built on and where President MT Steyn was born.
After years of fundraising, the father of church building in South Africa, Gerard Moerdijk built the current church which was inaugurated in ABCD
