Please join the Heart of Ohio Geocachers, the HOGs, for their “now-annual” yak wallow!
Last year we were fortunate to find an area with overnight amenities; this year we are doing a day trip. We had several folks saying “but I don’t do water!”, so this year we found a place where those choosing to stay ashore have a great set of caches to grab, just as the swabbies will be able to paddle to theirs! At Piedmont Lake we will have:
🐽 About 60 caches
🐽 26 T5s you will need to boat to, mostly by frank&michele
🐽 15 caches on a bridle trail on the NW side of the lake, hidden 2012-2017, mostly by determined2, a couple HOGs at that!
🐽 Bigfoot tour cache
🐽 Others scattered here and there around the lake
Many great caches, well maintained by seasoned cachers! You know it’s gonna be an awesome day! Heck, forget the caching! Think about how much fun it is to wallow with the HOGs! Even if you don’t feel like humping or rowing, you know you feel like some smiles, so come on out get your pink on 🐽!!
We will meet at the marina parking lot for a brief howdy then hit the trail/water. This is probably the best launch point for the water folk; there are a couple north for those who just want to grab a couple, and many south on both sides of the lake. Those hiking can jump on the trail here to hike north for some caches 5-10+ years old; relocating to the top of the trail and hiking down is also an option.
Salt Fork State Park is just down the road, and they have their own set of great caches, if you are looking to make it a weekend. They have a lodge as well as all the camping facilities.
Remember all of Ohio’s watercraft rules; have that PFD, a whistle and a current registration! Don’t forget some water to stay hydrated and some snacks to keep ya afloat!
***. Quick update here!!! The HOG heads came up with a special treat!! There will be a limited number of event pathtags given out; don't miss out!!
