Geocache Description:

Turistinformation Arvika #2

Se #1 for information om serien / See #1 for information on this series

I 1911 fick orten stadsrättigheter.

Fråga #2: Vad het samhället på tidigt 1800-tal?

The ancient Swedish name Arvika is believed to originate from å-vik (”river-bay”) and in 1225 the Norwegian king visited a village called Arvika according to Håkon Håkansson's Saga. In the 18th century, the decision was made to build a village for trading where Arvika is located today, along the shore of the lake. In the early 19th century, Arvika had another name that was a tribute to a Swedish prince, before the name Arvika was taken back in 1821. In 1911, the town received city rights.

Question #2: What was village called in the early 19th century?
