Kommunens stadsvapen är från 1911. Det ritades då av bildhuggaren Christian Eriksson som inspirerades av en berättelse skrivit av den värmländska nobelprisvinnaren Selma Lagerlöf – ”Vattnet i Kyrkviken”. Den handlade om et gammalt värmländskt sägen om näcken som steg i land på en vit hest. Då den nuvarande kommunen bildades av 6 mindre kommuner, blev det Arvikas kommunvapen som fick representera den nya kommunen – det var det äldsta, mest kända och Arvika hade störst folkmängd.

The municipality's coat of arms is from 1911. It was drawn by the sculptor Christian Eriksson who was inspired by a story written by Värmland's Nobel Prize winner Selma Lagerlöf – “Vatten i Kyrkviken (Water in the Church Bay). The story told an old Värmland legend about the Nixie that came ashore on a white horse. When the current municipality was formed from 6 smaller municipalities, it was Arvika's municipal coat of arms that was chosen to represent the new municipality - it was the oldest and well known, and Arvika had the largest population.
