O miejscu:
Sanktuarium św. Jana Pawła II to pierwsza w Krakowie świątynia poświęcona Papieżowi Polakowi, zbudowana dla uczczenia jego osoby i pontyfikatu.
Sanktuarium jest częścią Centrum Jana Pawła II „Nie lękajcie się!” usytuowanego na tzw. „Białych Morzach” w Krakowie, na obszarze dawnych Zakładów Sodowych Solvay, w których przez cztery lata (1940 – 1944) pracował młody Karol Wojtyła.
18 maja 2007 roku miało miejsce uroczyste poświęcenie placu pod budowę Centrum oraz krzyża wykonanego z elementów konstrukcyjnych ołtarza, które pozostały po ostatniej podróży apostolskiej Ojca Świętego Jana Pawła II do Ojczyzny (16 – 19 sierpnia 2002 roku).
Budowa Centrum „Nie lękajcie się!” została rozpoczęta jesienią 2008 roku, w przededniu obchodów 30-tej rocznicy wyboru kard. Karola Wojtyły na Stolicę Piotrową.
Głównym inicjatorem i pomysłodawcą tego przedsięwzięcia był metropolita krakowski ks. kard. Stanisław Dziwisz.
Inwestycja obejmuje realizacje zespołu budynków papieskiego Centrum, zaprojektowanych przez krakowskiego architekta inż. Andrzeja Mikulskiego.

About the Place:
The Sanctuary of Saint John Paul II is the first shrine in Krakow dedicated to the Polish Pope, built to honor his person and pontificate.
The sanctuary is part of the John Paul II "Have No Fear!" Center, located in the so-called "White Seas" area of Krakow, on the site of the former Solvay Soda Plant, where young Karol Wojtyła worked for four years (1940 – 1944).
On May 18, 2007, a ceremonial blessing of the site for the construction of the Center and a cross made from structural elements of the altar used during the last apostolic journey of Pope John Paul II to his homeland (August 16 – 19, 2002) took place.
The construction of the "Have No Fear!" Center began in the autumn of 2008, on the eve of the 30th anniversary of Cardinal Karol Wojtyła's election to the Holy See.
The main initiator and originator of this project was the Metropolitan Archbishop of Krakow, Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz.
The investment includes the realization of a complex of buildings for the papal Center, designed by Krakow architect Andrzej Mikulski.
