Arvika marknadsför sig som ”Sveriges innersta hamn” (dock är den faktiska innersta hamnen i Sulvik, några kilometer västerut) med förbindelse till hav. I 1837 byggdes en sluss i Säffle vid Vänern som gjorde det möjligt att enkelt ta sig vidare över Vänern och ner Göta älv.

In 1837, a lock was built in Säffle, which made it possible to carry on across lake Vänern (largest lake in Sweden) and down Göta river easily.
