A solstice is the time when the sun reaches its most northerly or southerly excursion relative to the celestial equator on the celestial sphere. Two solstices occur annually, around June 20–22 and December 20–22.
The term solstice can also be used in a broader sense, as the day when this occurs. The day of a solstice in either hemisphere has either the most sunlight of the year (summer solstice) or the least sunlight of the year (winter solstice).
Around the world people celebrate this event, the beginning of summer. Some see it as a sacred occasion, performing ceremonies waiting for the sunrise. Others, like geocachers, are offered a special souvenir, giving them a good excuse to make events.
This year's moment of solstice is on the 20th of June, 11:50PM (Israel time).
Let's meet and celebrate the sunrise of the solstice. Estimated time of sunrise is 5:38AM
