Cancer is a terrible disease which we lost Andrew to a week after his 40th birthday in 2019. Every year on his birthday we place a new cache in his memory. This is the fifth after his passing...#45. We miss you terribly, Ang. 
This year we chose the Amsterdam SkatePark. When Andrew was in grade school he was into skateboarding. He wasn't really good and could only do an "ollie" every once in awhile. However, that didn't stop him from trying and riding that thing all over Wynantskill with his friends. Fond memories of him reading the skater magazines and idolizing Tony Hawk and Mike McGill.
Another person who enjoyied skateboarding and passed far too young was Aaron. He was a Schenectady native and tragically lost his life in a snowmobile accident on Chritmas Day in 1993. He was only 18 years old.
Aaron and Andrew never met each other but they would have been friends if they had. Aaron was my wife's brother and Andrew was mine. This year they both would have turned 45 years old and since we are in a skatepark, I know Andrew is happy to share this memorial cache with him.
The City of Amsterdam Skatepark and Playground features eleven unique structures that allow skaters of all skill levels to enjoy the area’s largest outdoor skatepark. The facility, located at 143 East Main Street, also has a regulation size basketball court and plenty of playground equipment for kids of all ages
Note: In order to make room for the proposed Community Center/Recreation Center, this skate park will be relocated in the coming years. Given the success of this skate park it will be important to replace the park with an improved facility so that the youth of the City have a safe and inviting place to go. The skate park will be relocated in the immediate vicinity of the new recreation center and community center. We will be sure to hide this cache in a safe place for any proposed plans and will relocate if they move the skatepark further from its originl location and update comments here.
