Geocache Description:

The hills you are traversing were once the domain of the Chumash. They lived a peaceful life, respecting the land, and in turn, subsisting on the bounty the land provided.  They were a learned people and knew how to read the natural world, allowing them to know when to plant, when to harvest, and when to move with the seasons.  Your journey will follow their ancient footsteps and require you to understand some of their ways.

At the posted coordinates, look to the North and you will notice an ancient wooden marker, and beyond that a barrier to your travel, but yet through which the winds pass freely.

To the left of the wooden marker, the barrier is marked by a number of sturdy sentinels. The number of those sentinels that are seen before the one that anchors a turn is A.

To right of the wooden marker the barrier is marked by additional sturdy sentinels. The number of those sentinels that are seen before a small rectangular medallion is seen is B.  Take care to record these two values as the ancients will eventually look to you to use them to honor their ways.

Continue your journey towards the dawn until you come to a very small, yet very sturdy passage over the waters. While standing there, call upon the Ancients and they will reveal the direction you must go (A × the general direction of an ancient footpath to the Northeastern tribes)  and how far you must still travel (B × 25 men).  Once you interpret these numbers as did the ancients, you will be able to approach the boundary of the sacred monument.

Once there, it will then be up to you to call upon the spirits of the Ancients once more and ask them to guide you to the gnomonic monument they used to discern the seasons and the time of day. If you are sufficiently humble, they will show you the way and you will be able to mark a personal item with a seal of their approval.
