The summer solstice, also known as mid-summer, marks the day with the longest period of daylight and the shortest night of the year. It occurs when one of the Earth's poles has its minimum tilt away from the Sun and happens twice yearly -- once in each hemisphere. In the Northern Hemisphere, this is the June solstice, when the Sun reaches its highest position in the sky.

The significance of the summer solstice varies among cultures, but many recognize the event in some way with holidays or festivals, often with themes of fertility.  Many ancient monuments in Europe, as well as parts of the Middle East, Asia and the Americas, are aligned with sunrise or sunset on the summer solstice.

We'll meet on the beach at the fire ring. Bring firewood and/or something to burn. Maybe some food to share. Or just come to socialize. We can trade TBs and talk story. Along the waterfront, the weather may be cooler after nightfall, so it is recommended to bring a jacket or sweatshirt.
