Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Secret Beach. The location can be found using a little-known public access path to a beach on Fairhope's Eastern Shore. You are searching for a small cache that holds a log only, so BYOP. The trail there is first through a wooded area and then along the beach so be mindful of the wildlife. In warmer months, mosquitoes can be prevalent and quite ferocious so BYO-spray!

The Secret Beach on the Bay of the Holy Spirit

I found this beach when I moved back home to Fairhope and lived at the property next to the public access. I saw my first Jubilee there and have made many memories with family and friends over the years. In the summer of 2023, my children and I began decorating the area with items found in the nearby gully and items that washed ashore. This place holds lots of wonder and beauty. Theres a tire swing, a rope swing, a natural spring that’s great to put your feet in, an Osprey nest and lots of great places to take seat and enjoy the view.

The earliest outline of a recognizable bay on the northern coast of the Gulf of Mexico was shown on a 1507 map by German cartographer Martin Waldeseemuller–the same map to first apply the name "America" to the New World.

Alonso Álvarez de Pineda, during a 1519 Spanish expedition seeking a water passage to the Orient through the Gulf, described this harbor and gave it the name Bahía del Espíritu Santo. Successive Spanish explorers sought this "Holy Grail" along the Gulf Coast, failing until a 1693 expedition concluded that what is now called Mobile Bay was the fabled Bay of the Holy Spirit.
