ここは勝海舟が1872年(明治5年)から1899年(同32年)に77歳で亡くな るまで27年間住んだ屋敷のあった場所です。
勝海舟と坂本龍馬 の交流の始まりは、龍馬が海舟を斬ろうと面会を申し入れたところ、逆に感化されて海舟の門人 となり身辺警護をかってでた、ことからと言われています。そんな二人の師弟像は海外雄飛を目指した師弟の志を表現して、太平洋の向こうの米国を望むように東向きに置かれています。

This is where Kaishu Katsu lived for 27 years from 1872 until his death in 1899 at the age of 77.
It is said that the relationship between Kaishuu Katsu and Ryoma Sakamoto began when Ryoma asked to meet Kaishuu with the intention of killing him, but Kaishuu was so inspired that he became Kaishuu's student and asked him to protect him. The statues of the two men facing eastward, looking across the Pacific toward the U.S., represent their aspirations to fly abroad.
