Geocache Description:

Zephyr It Is Not, Nor Is It A Flying Scotsman

The cache IS NOT at the posted co-ords.  This is a straightforward multi-cache.  Go to the posted co-ordinates, make the required observation, note the required information and calculate the final co-ordinates using the formula further below.

How many times have you driven along the A2 Bangor Road heading towards Bangor, glanced left while passing the Ulster Transport Museum, caught a glimpse of the old steam boiler on display near the car park and thought it might be a good location to base a geocache on?  I have!

The posted co-ordinates will take you to a portable steam boiler which was built in the 1920s and provided power wherever it was required, just like the modern diesel generators used at road works today.

This portable steam boiler was originally used at Ebrington Naval Base in County Londonderry, where it provided temporary power to ships in port during the Second World War.

After the war, it powered the laundry at the base, before being moved to Kinnegar Army Barracks in Holywood, County Down.

To calculate the co-ordinates for the final GZ, you will need to study one of the wheels of the portable steam boiler (it doesn’t matter which one).  Observe and note the TWELVE LETTER word on the wheel.

To calculate the values of A-L below, assign a numerical value to these letters, according to their position as they appear in the alphabet.  A is the first letter that appears, B is the second letter, C is the third letter and so on.

For example, if the twelve letter word was DISTRIBUTION then the values for A-L would be as below.
