In the year 1812, Captain Blackheart, a notorious pirate buried his treasure. I, John "Steady Hand" O'Malley, his first mate, also known as John-the-mate and reluctant confidante, remained on the rickety ship, the salty spray a welcome respite from the simmering tension aboard. He had ventured ashore, with the idea of using the cover of darkness provided by that night's full eclipse, with a chest overflowing with Spanish doubloons, seeking a hidden cove rumored to be a haven for pirates of old. But his avarice had landed him in a predicament. The natives, fiercely protective of their land, had discovered him. A tense standoff ensued, forcing a hasty retreat that left Blackheart breathless and his precious sextant abandoned near to the site of the hidden treasure.
He had managed to escape, but Blackheart didn't survive his wounds. The days that followed were a somber affair. Some of the crew, still loyal to Blackheart, muttered accusations. Others, myself included, saw his misfortune as a karmic twist, a consequence of his relentless pursuit of riches.
Days or perhaps weeks later, amidst his scattered belongings retrieved from the frantic escape, I discovered a scrap of parchment sequestered in Blackheart's discarded hat. Scrawled in his hurried script were the very celestial coordinates he had intended to use for his return – the key to the hidden cove and the ill-gotten treasure.

With these celestial readings, perhaps a worthy soul – or a particularly determined geocacher – can retrace his steps and claim the buried bounty.
To claim your prize:
- Use the clues in the text and the provided sights to calculate the location of Captain Blackheart's ill-gotten treasure using celestial navigation techniques.
- If your calculations are true, you'll find yourself not on a storm-tossed ship, but standing at the very same place in the modern City of Shanghai where Blackbeard was those many years ago, the salty wind whispering tales of greed and consequence.
- You will instantly know you are in the right place.
- The cache is attached underneath a structure in the NW corner where Blackbeard himself probably took a rest to smoke his pipe.
Remember, the secrets of the sea are not easily unraveled. Double-check your calculations and trust the stars to guide you. May your own journey be marked by respect for the land and a touch less avarice than poor Captain Blackheart.
