This statue was presented to the Village of Babylon on the 1st of July, 2018 by The Baymen Statue Steering Committee, The Babylon Beautification Society and The Babylon Historical & Preservation Society.
The statue is dedicated to the hard-working Bay Men who made a living by harvesting clams on the waters of the Great South Bay.
The plaque states, "This statue pays homage to a once thriving clamming industry and to those
who toiled on the Great South Bay for hundreds of years. With determination and in the harshest of conditions, these individuals earned their living with tongs, rakes, and calloused hands. There are only a handful that remain.
Let "The Bayman" be an ever-present reminder of the work ethic, dedication, and contribution of those who labored to feed their families and save for their educations."
This statue is also part of a nearby adventure lab so I thought "Why not put a geocache here as well?"
