Qualche giorno fa siamo andati a trovare nostra zia e l'abbiamo trovata che stava contando una mucchio di chiavi, che aveva sparso sul tavolino in cucina, prima di riporle nella scatola, ma il lavoro era così noioso che sbagliava sempre.
Ci ha chiesto di aiutarla dicendoci che di una cosa sola era certa, che contando le chiavi due per volta ne avanzava sempre una.
Ugualmente succedeva anche se le contava per tre, per quattro, per cinque e per sei.
Invece contandole per sette non avanzava nulla.
Abbiamo preso un foglio ed una penna ed abbiamo fatto un po' di calcoli ma eravamo anche noi in difficoltà, così nostra zia ci ha dato un'altra informazione: la volta che aveva provato a contarle ad una alla volta si era distratta quando era raggiunta alla numero quattrocento, in più era certa che nella scatola non potessero entrarcene più di mille.
A questo punto soiamo riuscitio a capire subito il numero di chiavi possedute da mia zia.
Quanti sono le chiavi?
A few days ago we went to visit our aunt and found her counting a bunch of keys, which she had spread out on the kitchen table, before putting them back in the box, but the job was so boring that she always got it wrong.
She asked us to help her, telling us that she was certain of only one thing, that by counting the keys two at a time, she always had one left over.
The same thing happened if she counted them by three, by four, by five and by six.
Instead, counting them by seven left nothing left over.
We took a piece of paper and a pen and did some calculations but we were also in difficulty, so our aunt gave us another piece of information: the time she tried to count them one at a time she got distracted when she reached at the number four hundred, plus she was certain that more than a thousand couldn't fit in the box.
At this point we were able to immediately understand the number of keys owned by my aunt.
