Come see King George’s best view of the Rappahannock River at Wilmont Boat Landing. This public boat launch is situated around a federal wildlife preserve that makes for a beautiful summer drive. At Wilmont, participants can have a seat at one of the picnic tables and look outward at the stunning cliffs that align the shores of the river.
The area of the landing was also the site of King George’s old brick manufacturing factory from the late 1800s. During this period, there were a few other structures in the area, such as a hotel and other smaller structures. At this stop, you will learn about how this river extends beyond its beauty alone.
Cachers can approach by land or water. It is best not to enter the woods directly from the parking lot. Hike 50 yards up the road, then enter the woods. Avoid the scramble. Canopy may be tough on GPSr.
NOTE King George County has permission to place this geocache. Gravel road if approaching by land (two wheelers please use caution).
This geocache location was originally created by fellow geocacher Ted in 2007 and was made possible in association with the Northern Neck Geocaching Group.
