Geocache Description:

A.Leitnera velosipēdu fabrika.

Uzskata, ka velosipēds ir radies 19. gadsimtā. Nav iespējams piešķirt izgudrotāja statusu vienai konkrētai personai, taču jau 19. gadsimtabeigās tas kļuva par populāru pārvietošanās līdzekli un atstāja paliekošu ieteikmi uz sabiedrību, padarot cilvēkus daudz brīvākus un mobilākus nakā jebkad agrāk.

A.Leitners dzimis 1864. gadā Kurzemē, baltvācu ģimenē, jau no bērnības viņš aizrāvās ar tehniku.

ENG

A. Leitner Bicycle Factory.

It is believed that the bicycle originated in the 19th century. It is not possible to assign the status of inventor to one particular person, but by the end of the 19th century, it had become a popular means of transportation and left a lasting impact on society, making people much freer and more mobile than ever before.

A. Leitner was born in 1864 in Courland, to a Baltic German family, and was passionate about technology from childhood. He received his education in Jelgava, Mitau, where he learned the basics of engineering and technology. In the early 1880s, he moved to Riga and started working at the Rasch workshop. In 1883, he went abroad to further his knowledge and gain experience. In England and France, he acquired experience and knowledge in bicycle and machine manufacturing. After enhancing his skills and familiarizing himself with bicycle manufacturing technology, he returned to Riga to start his own business.

In 1886, in a small wooden house in Riga on Gertrudes Street, Alexander Leitner founded the first bicycle workshop, laying the foundation for a new industry in Latvia - bicycle manufacturing. With the money earned abroad, A. Leitner, at the age of 21, bought his first workbench and hired four employees. Initially, only 19 bicycles were produced per year, which sold quickly, although they were unstable high-wheelers with a large front wheel and a small rear wheel, called "spiders."

From the small workshop on Gertrudes Street, A. Leitner's company soon moved to larger premises between Brivibas and Cesu Street, built over a longer period almost exclusively according to the projects of architect Wilhelm Bockslaff. These premises, like the factory architecture of the time in general, were dominated by the traditional, quite rationalistic "brick eclecticism" style.

In 1894, the new production facility called "Alexander Leitner & Co. Bicycle Factory" was opened there. Soon, the new premises housed 67 workbenches, three welding machines, four enamel firing kilns, and eight nickel plating baths, as well as a material warehouse and foundry. The number of employees reached 200 people, and the annual production volume was around 1,000 bicycles.

In 1889, the factory produced its first motorcycle, tricycle, and automobile.

By 1901, they were producing men's, women's, and children's bicycles, tricycles intended for freight transportation, two different tandem models, triplets, quadruplets, motorcycles, and cars. Additionally, the factory made any kind of bicycle to order.

At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the company also produced light automobiles, and by 1913, about 18,000 bicycles had been manufactured at A. Leitner's factory, but a few years later, the production was evacuated to Kharkiv.

In 1971, by merging the shoe factories "Rekords," "Erglis," and "Centiba," the production association "Rekords" was established in the former territory of the Leitner bicycle factory.

When going for the cache, maintain secrecy and place the cache as it was found!!!
