SideTracked - Kilpatrick
This is a small, quick geocache to do for anyone who’s catching a train at Kilpatrick, just arrived at the station or walking nearby.
Kilpatrick Train Station is a small and quiet station which serves Old Kilpatrick. In 2022/23 there were about 63k passengers that used the station, which is on the rise since COVID. Prior to the pandemic, the number sat at around 100k, peaking at 135k in 2016/17.
The station sits on the North Clyde Line heading towards Helensburgh on the west and Dalmuir on the east. It has 2 platforms which are connected by an overhead bridge.
Inside the station, you have some abandoned buildings which were formerly a ticket office, a bridge, help point and information boards. Trains often arrive at the station every 25-30 minutes however a lot do pass without stopping. Sitting at the benches at the station, you do feel the wind and a slight adrenaline rush with a fast train passing by.
It has arguably the best exit in a station that I've ever been to, straight into a small, beautiful woodland which is called the Lusset Glen (3 geocaches there if you’re interested, 2 by me). It makes a nice dog walk and also serves as a pathway to the Erskine Bridge, a nice estate which is locally known as the "new estate" as it was built in the 90s and the village centre which has 2 pubs, a chippy, a church and a few shops.
The container’s small, big enough for small trading items and trackables but not a lot of them. Logbook has a plastic bag it goes in, please make sure it’s sealed properly.
Apologies for the distance from the station compared to some other SideTracked caches, only place I could hide it without it overlapping my caches in the glen, illegally placing it in the train station or go against SideTracked rules by putting it in the car park.
Happy caching :D
Congrats to kathrynandsandra for the FTF!
