Die Hochschule Coburg führt ihre Tradition auf die private Schule für „Bürgerliche Baukunst“ zurück, die der Hofbaumeister Friedrich Streib im Jahr 1814 in Coburg gründete. Sie hatte die Aufgabe, Bauhandwerker auf das Meisterrecht vorzubereiten. Es folgten zahlreiche Umbenennungen, u.a. 1852 in Herzogliche Baugewerkschule, 1959 in Polytechnikum. 1971 wurde die Einrichtung zur Fachhochule und dann um die Studienrichtungen Wirtschaft, Sozialwesen und Design erweitert. Die heutige Hochschule hat zahlreiche Standorte innerhalb Coburgs sowie in Kronach, Lichtenfels und Bamberg.

Wichtige Hinweise:
- Bis auf zwei Ausnahmen befinden sich die Stages im Freien. Montag - Freitag von 8 - 18 Uhr ist die Hochschule frei zugänglich. Ggf. findet ihr die Informationen auch über eine Internetrecherche.
- Der Cache liegt auf dem Gelände der Hochschule. Die relevanten Stellen der Hochschule sind darüber informiert und stimmen dem Geocachen zu.
- Es sind vor Ort keine Parkmöglichkeiten für nicht-Hochschulangehörige vorhanden. Nutzt also lieber das Rad oder den ÖPNV.

Stage 1: Hochschulleben
Die Hochschule richtet mehrere, an die Öffentlichkeit adressierte Veranstaltungen aus oder gestaltet sie maßgeblich mit, bspw. die Designtage und Nachhaltigkeitstage. Einen festen Platz im Hochschulleben haben bspw. auch der Dies Academicus und die Mensaparty (welche nicht verschiedener sein könnten...). Zum ganz alltäglichen Wohlbefinden tragen Mensa, Cafeteria und Kaffeebar bei. Wie viele Fahnen wehen vor dem Ort, der täglich einen Großteil der 4700 Studierenden und 520 Mitarbeitenden mit Mittagessen versorgt? (=A)
Stage 2: Forschung
Die drei Säulen, auf die sich das Wirken der HS Coburg stützt, sind Lehre, Forschung und Transfer. Die anwendungsorientierte Forschung nutzt Erkenntnisse der Grundlagenforschung, sodass u.a. gemeinsam mit örtlichen Unternehmen technische oder gesellschaftliche Innovationen entstehen. Im Zentrum für Mobilität und Energie wird in modernen Laboren zu Elektromobilität, automatisiertem Fahren und Robotik geforscht. Wie kann der Gebäudename abgekürzt werden? (Anzahl der Buchstaben =B)
Stage 3: Studentische Initiativen
Es gibt eine Vielzahl studentischer Initiativen, z.B. die Hochschul-Big Band, die künstlerische Arbeitsgemeinschaft "Wir gestalten" und das Formula Student Team CAT-Racing. Stage 4: von Büchern und Rechnern (indoor)
Der Neubau mit goldener Fassade wurde 2021 eröffnet und soll moderne Lehre unterstützen. Das Gebäude beherbergt neben Bibliothek und Rechenzentrum auch Gruppenräume für Studierende. Das Kunstwerk im Foyer gibt ein Zitat Goethes aus dem Jahr 1826 in Binärcode wieder. Wie ist der Vorname der Künstlerin? (Anzahl der Buchstaben =D)
Stage 5: Fakultäten
Auf dem Campus Friedrich-Streib sind folgende Studienbereiche vertreten: Soziales & Gesundheit, Technik, Naturwissenschaften & Informatik sowie Wirtschaft. Ihnen gehören rund drei Viertel aller Studierenden an. Auch die Hochschulleitung und die Verwaltung haben hier ihren Sitz. Stage 6: Ein Stein, der vom Himmel fiel
Zu einem Objekt am Campus gibt es mehr Fragezeichen als Gewissheiten: Seit gut 30 Jahren liegt ein Stein vor dem Eingang zu Gebäude 2 und niemand weiß genau, wie er dort hin kam. Vermutlich ist er ein Abschlussstreich damaliger Alumni des Maschinenbaus. Er trägt die Aufschrift "Never eat the left shoe". Im Englischen gibt es die Redewendung, dass man derart wütend ist, dass man seine Schuhe auszieht und diese isst. Was die Alumni wohl derart aufgeregt hat? Und warum man ausgerechnet den linken Schuh nicht essen sollte? Auf dem Stein befinden sich zwei Doppelziffern, gesucht ist die höhere (=F)

Stage 7: Die große liegende Figur
Im Jahr 1988 schuf Wolfgang Bier eine überlebensgroße Figur. Der metallene Riese von sechs Metern Länge wird oft "Eisenmann" genannt und liegt vor dem zentralen Eingangsbereich. Er wirkt gleichzeitig maschinenhaft, tierisch und menschlich. Das Eichenblatt an seinem Rücken erinnert an die Nibelungensage. Stage 8: Hörsaal (indoor)

ENGLISH VERSION
Coburg University of Applied Sciences traces its tradition back to the private school for "civic architecture", which was founded in Coburg in 1814 by the court architect Friedrich Streib. Its task was to prepare building tradesmen for the master craftsman's certificate. It was renamed numerous times, including in 1852 as Herzogliche Baugewerkschule and 1959 as the Polytechnikum. In 1971, the institution became a Fachhochschule and its focus was expanded to include business, social studies and design. Today's university has numerous locations within Coburg as well as in Kronach, Lichtenfels and Bamberg.

Important notes:
- With two exceptions, the stages are outdoors. The university is freely accessible Monday - Friday from 8 am - 6 pm. You can also find the information via an internet search.
- The cache is located on the university grounds. The relevant departments of the university have been informed and agree to geocaching.
- There are no parking facilities on site for non-university members. So it's better to use your bike or public transport.

Stage 1: University life
The university organizes several events aimed at the public, such as the Design Days (Designtage) and Sustainability Days (Nachhaltigkeitstage). The Dies Academicus and the Mensa Party (which couldn't be more different...) also have a firm place in university life. The canteen, cafeteria and coffee bar contribute to everyday well-being. Stage 2: Research
The three pillars on which the work of Coburg University of Applied Sciences is based are teaching, research and transfer. Application-oriented research uses findings from basic research to create technical or social innovations together with local companies. Stage 6: A stone that fell from the sky
There are more question marks than certainties about one object on campus: A stone has been lying in front of the entrance to Building 2 for a good 30 years and nobody knows exactly how it got there. It is probably a graduation prank by former mechanical engineering alumni. It bears the inscription "Never eat the left shoe". In English, there is a saying that you are so angry that you take off your shoes and eat them. What got the alumni so upset? And why shouldn't you eat the left shoe of all things? There are two double digits on the stone, you are looking for the higher one (=F)

Stage 7: The large reclining figure
In 1988, Wolfgang Bier created a larger-than-life figure. The six-metre-long metal giant is often called the "Iron Man" ("Eisenmann") and lies in front of the central entrance area. He appears machine-like, animal-like and human at the same time. The oak leaf on his back is reminiscent of the Nibelungen saga.
