THIS CACHE IS NOT AT THE GIVEN COORDINATES! Please be aware that there will be a lot of muggle activity on Sunday mornings, so it would be adviced to time your caching respectively.
Penhurst Village
In the past, the village itself (mainly farmers) was much bigger than it was now; but the population was significantly decreased due to the plague in the 17th century. It then transormed into the heart of the Wealden iron industry in the 18th century, but the last forge of SUssex was closed here in the early 19th century.
Penhurst Church
Built over an old saxon church in the 1370s, St Michael's main building has been largely unchanged during the years but still remains in excellent condition. The original roofs remain with rennovations in the 1800s due to a partial collapse. The chapel is of special interest as it was never completed.
The Cache!
Now for the thing that brought you to this church in the first place, the cache! The information should take you around 5 minutes to find.
Before you enter the churchyard, you'll see a sign with the service details. At what time is the Sunday service? This will be A.BC.
Now walk anti-clockwise around the chuch. How many doorways are there? This is D.
Along the brick wall there is a notably light grey headstone; the grave of Edith Bond. How many letters were in her maiden name? This is E.
Turn around and look up at the church roof. How many stone crosses are there? This is F.
The coordinates for the cache are found at N50 55.(D+F)(B-F)(D+E), E00 24.(C*F)(A-C-D)(B*E).
Happy caching! :)
