The idea for this geocache came together during a visit with the Jamestown Tourism office when we were talking with them about the NDGCA annual event that was being hosted in town during June 2024. They wanted some kind of geocache at Dakota Thunder, although they didn't quite know what. When we walked out there to look at the area and talk about some ideas, there were visitors using the nearby tool and an AHA! moment occured and this cache was born.
The cache container is hidden inside a birdhouse with a combination lock. You must use the tool located nearby that provides the user with an enlarged image of distant objects to figure out the numbers needed to open the cache. You probably walked by the tool, but just in case we have provided the coordinates as a waypoint if you need them. The tool in question is permanently mounted next to Dakota Thunder and is available 24/7/365, although you won't be able to see what you need see when it's dark, foggy, raining, or snowing.
The cache is located next to both the horse pasture and the buffalo pasture. You may be able to get a closeup look at both, although more than likely just the horses as they are more curious than the buffalo, which tend to stay away from the fence and people in general.
How to open the cache:
Once you locate the tool you will want to aim it approximately 98° from true north (approximately a little south of due east) and a slight downward angle. You are looking for a 3 digit number on a sign about a mile away. Once you locate that number, add it to 8141. The answer you get is the combination for the lock.
When hidden, the cache contained some small toys and other SWAG.
