Auther Lucy Maud Montgomery's 150th Birthday is celebrated here in July 2024. She boarded here at the Parsonage while she taught at the Bideford school in 1894-95 - her first teaching assignment after graduating teachers college. Some of her early short stories were written during her tenure here, with more of her Bideford experiences reflected in her later writings.
This Victorian house was built by Thomas H Pope in 1878, and purchased by the Methodist Church in 1884 for use as their Parsonage.
In 1999, the property was purchased by the West Country Historical Society and converted into a Museum to commerate our local history with artifacts from the L.M.Montgomery and Shipbuilding era.
