Geocache Description:

THERE IS NO CACHE AT THE POSTED COORDINATES

The actual location of the geocache is not on private property.

I am making this geocache for two reasons:

  • The first is to celebrate finding my 100th geocache and to many more!
  • The second reason is to celebrate and show off all I've learned in my last semester of taking physics 20 and math 20-1 in high school.

Let me lay out the situation that you are going to have to solve to find the location of this geocache. FYI this situation is based loosely on a real example my physics teacher gave my class to teach us about gravitational fields lol.

____________________________________________________

You are walking down the sidewalk and stop (at GZ, with the coordinates 53° 33' 35.0" N 113° 17' 20.0" W.) Suddenly, you notice a group of 38 oiled-up buff guys standing 2.50 km from you at a bearing of 281° (the distance is from surface to surface.) This group has a combined mass of 1.51E15 kg and a diameter of 1.03 km due to the group's dense muscles.

You feel an attraction towards them, which is the force of gravity, and you can see them because of your eagle-eye vision. But wait, there's another group of 61 similarly oiled-up buff guys, one of which is enjoying a hot latte, 3.40 km away at a bearing of 20.3° (once again, from surface to surface.) This second group has a combined mass of 1.07E15 kg and a radius of 620 m, once again, due to their dense muscles.

The gravitational pull from these groups puts you in a trance, making you move towards their combined gravitational force. Since you are also an oiled-up buff guy with a mass of 999 kg and a diameter of 200 m, you start sliding across the ground (taking friction into account). The coefficient of friction between you and the ground is 1.00E-3.

Your speed increases under the influence of these forces until you reach 0.834 m/s, at which point the trance wears off, which causes you to stop instantly. As you stop, you spot a small container behind a fairly large sign. It's a geocache! Feeling lucky, you sign the log, possibly trade some items, and then continue your day.

Below is the rest of the tools you will need to solve this geocache. There is a website where you can input the numbers you calculate to find the cache's true location. There is also a data sheet with the formulas required to correctly complete the calculations.

Goodluck and happy caching!

If you enjoy this cache, please consider leaving a favorite! This cache took lots of effort to make. 💜

Congrats to Oreoing on the FTF! It was well deserved.
