The orthodox Panagia Ipseni Monastery has been functioning without an interruption since it's foundation. It was built in 1855 by St. Melitos who was born in the nearby city of Lardos.. This renewed monastery, situated on a calm and a charming place, is operated by friendly nuns, it is opened to the public and offers fresh water, two churches, a small shop and other attractions.
A little hill with a Way of Cross provides superb view to the monastery, surroudings hills and the sea, contrasting with residues of a large forest demaged by wild fire (in July 2023), which stopped just a few steps before the holly monastery. Despite of the serious dammages, all the people, buildings and relicts were saved, the sisters and the firewatchers needed to hide in the undergroud. Today (June 2024), this pretty place welcomes the visitors in restored pure beauty (can be accessed by an asphalt road ending in a big parking area).
Pravoslavný klášter Moni Panagia Ipseni funguje bez přerušení od svého založení (sv. Melitos, rodák z blízkého Lardosu jej postavil r.1855). Přátelské jeptišky vedou tento pěkně opravený klášter na klidném a půvabném místě otevřeném pro veřejnost s čerstvou vodou, dvěma kostely, obchůdkem…
Kopeček s křížovou cestou a velkým křížem na vrcholu nabízí nádherný výhled nejen na klášter, okolní kopce a moře, ale jsou vidět i lesy poškozené při požárech (červenec 2023). Oheň se zastavil jen několik kroků před klášterem, přes vážné škody byli zachráněni všichni lidé, budovy i cenné předměty, jeptišky a členové požární hlídky se museli schovat v podzemí. Nyní (červen 2024) vítá toto místo své návštěvníky v plné kráse (vede sem asfaltka, velké parkoviště).
