Geocache Description:

This beautiful old church has a rich history. The church we see today was constructed on the orders of King James IV of Scotland. Instead of an ordinary Parish Church the king ordered the church to be rebuilt in this grand style and dedicated it to the Virgin Mary whom he believed saved him from drowning in the River Tweed when returning to Scotland after the siege of Norham castle in 1496.
