Welcome to the Howson Library, a beloved library and community gathering spot in West Austin. Erected in 1960, Howson Library is one of 20 branch libraries in the Austin Public Library system. The library's namesake is Austinite Emilie Wheelock Howson (1861-1957).
This beautiful garden at the Howson Library is a classic garden that reduces the use of landscape chemicals; saves water, resources, money and time; and supports beneficial wildlife. You can read more about it here: https://www.statesman.com/story/entertainment/house-home/2019/05/22/learn-about-gardening-firsthand-at-austin-library/5090963007/.
If the library is open, don’t forget to go in and explore. The library regularly hosts events open to the community, and it has a lot of great books and resources as well as knowledgeable and helpful librarians. The librarians will even give you a sticker if you ask!
Happy reading!
