Willie Mays, born on May 6, 1931, in Westfield, Alabama, is widely regarded as one of the greatest baseball players of all time. Known as "The Say Hey Kid," Mays dazzled fans with his exceptional athleticism, powerful hitting, and defensive brilliance throughout his 22-year Major League Baseball career.

Mays made his MLB debut in 1951 with the New York Giants and quickly became a standout player. His iconic over-the-shoulder catch in the 1954 World Series remains one of the most memorable moments in baseball history. After the Giants moved to San Francisco in 1958, Mays continued to excel, becoming a central figure in the team's success.

Over his career, Mays hit 660 home runs, placing him among the top home run hitters in baseball history. He was a 24-time All-Star, a 12-time Gold Glove Award winner, and a two-time National League MVP. Known for his all-around skills, Mays was equally feared for his offensive prowess and his ability to cover vast distances in the outfield with his speed and agility.

Beyond his on-field achievements, Mays was a trailblazer and a role model, breaking racial barriers and inspiring future generations of athletes. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1979 in his first year of eligibility, cementing his legacy as one of the sport's all-time greats.
