Geocache Description:

Historically, the Liverpool Skyline as seen from the River Mersey comprised the “Three Graces” – The Royal Liver Building, The Cunard Building and the Port of Liverpool Building. At the back of the city is the Anglican Cathedral.

The Three Graces

Little changed until the 1960s when Liverpool’s Metropolitan Cathedral was built, followed shortly afterwards by St Johns Beacon (now the Radio City Tower) that was initially a revolving restaurant.

In the 1970s there were developments in the commercial district around Old Hall Street including New Hall Place (which was the Royal Insurance building), Metropolitan House (the Daily Post & Echo building) and the Plaza (formerly the Sir John Moores Building).

Since about 2000 there have several taller buildings (skyscrapers) built in the city. Currently the tallest skyscraper in the city is West Tower at 140m high and with 40 floors.

The Liverpool Skyline

Looking at the viewpoint plaque, the Liverpool skyline is on the extreme left. This panoramic plaque is a few years old so the buildings of Liverpool that can be seen across the river to the left on the horizon will have changed with more developments.

The cache can be found at N 53 17.ABC W 002 53.DEF.
