Geocache Description:

This cache is part of a small series of caches which are placed around Tregargus Valley. The caches were placed with the kind permission of Tregargus Trust CIO.

Tregargus Valley contains the remains of china stone mills that have been abandoned since the 1960s.

This series of caches looks to take you on a woodland walk around the five remaining china stone mills that were the scene of Victorian industry for almost 100 years, which are gradually being reclaimed by nature.

The valley was once a major hub for the extraction and processing of china stone. Unlike china clay, which is soft and can be washed out of the rocks, china stone is a hard rock that has to be quarried and then ground down by mills to a fine powder. This powder was used as one of the main ingredients to make porcelain.
