When I went on a trip to the UK earlier this year, I discovered the SideTracked series, where caches are hidden near railway stations. It started in the UK, but has since spread all over the world (including here in Maryland!) Not only are there SideTracked caches, there are also SideTracked events too!
August 10th is the 17th anniversary of the first SideTracked cache that was hidden. I thought it would be fun to host an event to spread the word. Why here? The historic former Ellicott City train station is just a short walk from here.

About Ellicott City Station:
Along the banks of the Patapsco River, this station opened in May 1830 as the terminus of the original Baltimore & Ohio Railroad line from Baltimore to what was then known as Ellicott's Mills. Originally using horse-drawn rail cars, the B&O Railroad later demonstrated the Tom Thumb, the first steam locomotive built in the United States, at this station.
Originally opened for freight transport, the station was renovated in 1857 to accommodate passenger rail as well.
Passenger service in Ellicott City ended in 1949. In 1968, the Ellicott City station was named a National Historic Landmark, and in 1972, freight service ceased, leading to the station's closure. Upon its closure, the stationed was converted to a museum and remains open to the public to this day.
