Wir befinden uns hier am Waldbad Bernhardsthal, hoch oben auf dem Kamm des Thüringer Waldes, am Rennsteig, an einem Ort mit wechselhafter Geschichte.
Im 19ten Jahrhundert war hier noch nichts von einem Waldbad zu sehen. Im Jahr 1829 errichtete der Feldhauptmann Justus Georg Greiner, gemeinsam mit seinem Sohn Friedemann Greiner, an diesem Ort eine Tafelglashütte. Diese produzierte schon bald 2000 Zentner Glas jährlich. Gerade einmal 15 Jahre nach Eröffnung der Hütte fand im Jahr 1844 eine schreckliche Mordtat statt. Am 27. Februar tötete einer der Arbeiter erst seine Ehefrau und vier Kinder, und schließlich auch sich selbst.
Im Jahr 1845 wurde die Hütte nach einem Brand geschlossen, und erst im Jahr 1848 wieder aufgebaut. Nach einem Raub der Kasse im benachbarten Glückstahl im Jahr 1850 verfielen die beiden Glashütten zusehends, wurden vom Staat aufgekauft und 1860 schließlich geschlossen.
Es folgte eine lange Phase, in welcher der Teich zur Fischerei verwendet wurde. Erst nach dem zweiten Weltkrieg wurde dieser zum Waldbad umgebaut. Hierbei half die sowjetische Armee mit schwerem Gerät bei der Verlegung der Betonplatten auf dem Grund des Nichtschwimmerbereichs.
In den Jahren nach 1990 war es mehrmals fraglich ob das Bad weiter betrieben werden kann und soll. Zur Schließung kam es jedoch bis heute nicht, und so lädt das Waldbad Bernhardsthal weiterhin Badegäste von Nah und Fern zu Erholung und Erfrischung bei sommerlicher Hitze ein.
Dieser Geocache soll für badende und durchreisende Geocacher eine Ergänzung zum Waldbad Bernhardsthal sein, und ihnen dessen Geschichte einer wenig näher bringen. Behandelt die Dose bitte vorsichtig, und platziert sie am Ende wieder dort, wo ihr sie hergeholt habt. Ich hoffe sie bleibt in ihrer Form lange erhalten und erfreut kleine und große Geocacher, sowie Badegäste und Sonnenanbeter allen Alters.
We are here at Waldbad Bernhardsthal, high up on the ridge of the Thuringian Forest, on the Rennsteig, in a place with an eventful history.
In the 19th century, there was still no sign of a forest bath here. In 1829, the field captain Justus Georg Greiner, together with his son Friedemann Greiner, built a table glassworks on this site. They were soon producing 2000 quintals of glass a year. Just 15 years after the glassworks opened, a terrible murder took place in 1844. On February 27, one of the workers killed his wife and four children, and then himself.
In 1845, the glassworks was closed after a fire and was only rebuilt in 1848. After a robbery of the cash register in the neighboring Glückstahl in 1850, the two glassworks deteriorated noticeably, were bought up by the state and finally closed in 1860.
This was followed by a long period in which the pond was used for fishing. It was only after the Second World War that it was converted into a forest pool. The Soviet army helped with heavy equipment to lay the concrete slabs at the bottom of the non-swimmers' area.
In the years after 1990, it was questioned several times whether the pool could and should continue to be operated. However, it has not been closed to this day, and so the Bernhardsthal forest pool continues to invite bathers from near and far to relax and refresh themselves in the summer heat.
This geocache is intended as an addition to the Bernhardsthal forest pool for bathers and geocachers passing through, and to give them a little insight into its history. Please handle the can with care and put it back where you found it at the end. I hope it will remain in its original form for a long time to come and delight young and old geocachers, bathers and sun worshippers of all ages.
Nacházíme se zde ve Waldbad Bernhardsthal, vysoko na hřebeni Durynského lesa, na Rennsteigu, na místě s bohatou historií.
V 19. století zde ještě nebyly žádné známky lesních lázní. V roce 1829 postavil polní kapitán Justus Georg Greiner spolu se svým synem Friedemannem Greinerem na tomto místě stolní sklárnu. Brzy vyráběli 2000 metrických centů skla ročně. Pouhých 15 let po otevření sklárny došlo v roce 1844 k hrozné vraždě. 27. února jeden z dělníků zabil svou ženu a čtyři děti a poté i sebe.
V roce 1845 byla sklárna po požáru uzavřena a znovu postavena až v roce 1848. Po vyloupení pokladny v sousedním Glückstahlu v roce 1850 obě sklárny znatelně zchátraly, byly odkoupeny státem a nakonec uzavřeny v roce 1860.
Následovalo dlouhé období, kdy byl rybník využíván k rybolovu. Teprve po druhé světové válce byl přeměněn na lesní tůň. Sovětská armáda pomáhala s těžkou technikou položit betonové desky na dně zóny pro neplavce.
V letech po roce 1990 bylo několikrát zpochybňováno, zda by bazén mohl a měl být i nadále provozován. Dodnes však nebyl uzavřen, a tak lesní koupaliště Bernhardsthal nadále zve koupající se z blízka i z daleka k relaxaci a osvěžení v letních vedrech.
Tato geocache je určena jako doplněk k lesnímu bazénu Bernhardsthal pro procházející koupající se a geocachery a jako malý vhled do jeho historie. S keškou prosím zacházejte opatrně a na konci ji vraťte tam, kde jste ji našli. Doufám, že zůstane v původní podobě ještě dlouho a bude těšit mladé i staré geocachery, koupající se a milovníky slunce všech věkových kategorií.
