This geocache is placed at a site with a lot of history for our family. Since summer of 2000 our family had been camping and fishing on this beach. Growing up is kids would call it "the Sandy sturgeon fishing hole" and the name has stuck ever since. if you have fishing rods bring them along! The best spot is straight out into the river, right where the back eddy meets the main current. There is a deep underwater ledge that you will want to get your line on the other side of. In 2010 on Father's Day our family caught our biggest fish to date - a 10ft 2in behemoth sturgeon, estimated at over 700lbs and about 110 years old. Many memories have been made at this beach.

There are a couple ways to access this location. Most often our family would jetboat up the river with our tents and camping supplies. If you do not have a boat, we'd recommend starting from the gorgeous Emory Creek Campground and Provincial Park, crossing the creek, and following the shore downriver to the beach. It is likely most accessible late in the year when the river is the lowest. There are also a few trails that start near camp Squeah and the highway but do not follow these as there are railroad tracks nearby. This area can be somewhat treacherous depending on the year so be wary of the terrain rating.

We hope that you enjoy this spot and if you catch anything definitely put photos in your log. Cache is a bison tube hidden per the hint and should be a fairly obvious spot for any seasoned cacher.Â
