Just 25 years ago today, the crazy passion/obsession we call Geocaching began and spread like peanut butter. It has crazed fans all over the world and there is even travel bugs on the space station. So, today marks the 25th Anniversary of the beginning of Geocaching.
But there is more to celebrate on this day!!! It is the 150th Anniversary of the Kentucky Derby. Exactly, to the day, 25 years before the beginning of Geocaching, I was just finishing my final exams so I could be granted my college degree from a small university in Kentucky. This was the day the great horse named Foolish Pleasure won the Kentucky Derby.
So, let’s celebrate both events at the same time. Today is the Golden Anniversary of the completion of my college degree…..I mean of Foolish Pleasure winning the Kentucky Derby and the Silver Anniversary of Geocaching!!
But let’s not stop the celebration yet!!! Surely, there are going to be many attendees who will also be celebrating something on May 3ed. Maybe a birthday, the day you were paroled, or even the day you found your first Geocache. Let me know and we will add you to the celebration.
This event begins at 5:00pm on the patio and will last at least two hours. The Derby Celebration: At exactly 5:57p, the 150th Run for the Roses will begin, and we are going to take part in the celebration. Everybody who shows up will get one token to bet on their favorite horse. There will be jars listing the horse’s number, name and its odds. Put your token in the jar of the horse you think you will win. A drawing will be held among the people who pick the winning horse, and they will be awarded a great Geocaching prize. In fact, there will be prizes for the people who select the horse who wins, places, and shows (first, second and third place).
So, put on your fancy Derby hat or dress up like a jockey and join us in the celebration.
