Celebrate World Postcard Day with breakfast at the Tudor Road IHOP, 501 East Tudor, between 0800 and 1000, on Saturday, October 4, 2025.
The event host will be present during the entire two-hour window for this combination Community Celebration Event, World Postcard Day celebration, and Stammtisch, and any are welcome to join for the full event or to just stop by and say "hello."
The official World Postcard Day is October 1, 2025, but Groundspeak will award a souvenir to cachers who attend an event between September 28 and October 4, 2025. World Postcard Day was first celebrated in 2019 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the first postcard.
We will make post cards to send to friends and even Geocaching HQ. Some postcards will be provided, but feel free to bring your own cards and colored pens and markers, and other craft supplies.
For more information, visit the 2025 Geocaching Blog, 2024 Geocaching Blog Wrap-up, Postcrossing, and World Postcard Day webpages.
The Stammtisch concept is also being resurrected with this morning's event.

Stammtisch: Loosely translated from German meaning a "regular get-together." Literally speaking, the word Stammtisch is a table in a bar or restaurant which is reserved for the same guests at the same time every day or every week. There is usually a sign on the table saying "Stammtisch." If you don't belong to this table, don't attempt to sit there! In the most traditional German beer halls there is a large brass plaque above the table with the word Stammtisch printed on it in bold lettering. During a recent trip to Germany, I saw a carved wooden "Stammtisch" sign hanging over a restaurant table in Regensburg (see the background image of this event page).
There can be all kinds of Stammtisch. There are those simply for friends to drink together. Or those for specific interest groups - say a "Philosophy Discussion Stammtisch" or a "Stamp Collectors Stammtisch". In our case, I hope to restart the "Geocaching Stammtisch" which was first held in Alaska a decade ago in 2015.
Hopefully, this event will reignite an Alaskan caching tradition of cachers informally, but regularly, getting together to swap stories, tips, and tricks over a meal or beverage. I will kick off the 2025 version with this event and hope to pass the torch to the next host who will specify the time and location before the event concludes.
