Geocache Description:

A Community Celebration Event

Part of the fun of geocaching is getting to know other geocachers in the community. Mega events are fun because you meet cachers from all over the world, but the foundations of the geocaching community are local events. It's nice to talk with people who understand an obsession with geocaching. Why would someone leave a perfectly good path and wade into bush and briar to search for an ammo can? Why would you drive fifteen miles off your route to look under a lamppost for an old pill bottle in the next county? Why should you never travel the shortest distance to your destination but chose a different route every time? Why do all your holidays and vacations have to include geocaching? These are mysteries that only other cachers fully comprehend. Local events are of great importance as they reminded you that you are not the only one with these unusual habits.

So, while we celebrate the geocaching community in 2025, we have chosen to recognize some of the geocachers who have hosted many, if not most of the local events we have attended. These cachers have gone well beyond most in creating a geocaching community and deserve our appreciation. In addition to the routine, "Thanks for the Event", we want to give special recognition today to several geocachers. In total, these cachers have held over 264 local events.

Come join us at the community room of Kathleen Clay Edwards Library (Price Park) on Sunday afternoon July 6th from 3:45 pm to 5:45 pm. It is appropriate that this event is being held in the "community room" as it's all about celebrating our geocaching community. And also about ice cream treats!

This Event is part of a limited release of Community Celebration Events to celebrate 25 years of geocaching. Geocachers hosted events between January 1, 2025 and December 31, 2025. Learn more about Community Celebration Events on the Geocaching Blog.
