As 2025 draws to a close it's time to celebrate all things caching during the year. Join us for a lunchtime visit to a popular caching pub on New Year's Eve The venue is The Hatchet in Market Place, Newbury. We'll be somewhere at the back. In previous events held at this venue we've taken over most of the back of the pub. If you get there early please throw some coats and bags on some neighbouring tables.
What to expect:
- almost certainly a 'pub quiz'
- quite possible a dozen or so new caches published on the day
- perhaps an AdLab
- definitely laughs and smiles
- a budget-priced food and drink menu
- another Community Celebration icon on a different day
- and a geocaching end-of-year caching souvenir
Getting there:
- Rail - the easiest way with direct trains from Paddington and Reading. The pub is about 400 metres from the station. I shall post suggestions on trains nearer the time.
- Car - there is 2-hour free parking in Sainsbury's which is 350 metres away. There's paid parking in The Wharf and Kennet Centre which are close by. If you're prepared to walk 15 minutes then there's free parking in some of the residential streets nearby. Waypoints included some of the locations. Let me know and I can advise.
- Bus - the bus station is just round the corner if you like buses.
- Bicycle - there are local cycleways and the pedestrian area is shared with cyclists.
- Boat - the Kennet and Avon Canal is just round the corner. Good luck if you choose this option
- Horse - the race course is not far away, nor is Lambourn.
