Geocache Description:

What's This Event?

On 5 April 2015, Stanthorpe was the site for the QLD Mega, the first Mega-Event in Queensland - in these very showgrounds, even. And one decade on, it's time to gather again to have a good time befitting the memories!

Before 2015, winter events in Stanthorpe were a staple for geocaching in South-East Queensland. So, this Community Celebration Event is delayed ten extra weeks to put us in the cold this town is famous for.

The building at the co-ordinates is where the main action will happen. Called the 'Tea Pavilion', it will be heated inside, and have refreshments (including tea!) available too.
What's the Plan?

This afternoon event will feature activities on-site, and some adventures out and around Stanthorpe. Come and go as you please during the time; enjoy the activities, hang out, or find the geocaches nearby. There will be an agenda available so you don't miss anything.

🧁 Can You Bring a Plate to Share? If you're keen, I'd love you to bring something tasty for a shared afternoon tea. Sweet, savoury, homemade, or supermarket-special - we're not picky, we just like snacks! Tea and coffee will be provided.

There will be:
🧪 Adventure Labs and gadgets on site,
🧭 New geocaches (with FTFs being handed out to the first 50 'Will Attends'),
🧱 Decade Dash: a walking scavenger hunt and lego build challenge,
😄 Collect-a-Cacher: make new friends, start conversations and fill out a bingo card,
🍏 Crunch the Numbers: can you guess the number of apples in the barrel?
🛠️ Cache Construction Corner: build your own PVC tube workshop,
🕰️ Mega Museum: memorabilia and items from the 2015 Mega,
🐞 Ten Years of Trackables: it's a trackables swap table,
📷 Where's 25? Locationless opportunity photo booth,
🛰️ Geocache containers for sale, including ammo boxes,
📝 Novelty logbook; sign the Mega Micro,
💡 And probably more!!

🍎 Plus, every team who logs a "Will Attend" (by 7 June) will receive a welcome Core Pack!

After the official event, we can hang around the fire pit with BYO dinner (we will also still have access to the Tea Pavilion kitchen for the night), and the usual geocaching chatter.

The showgrounds are pooch-friendly with the usual considerations; dogs must be quiet, under control and on a lead at all times. They can be walked around the showgrounds, but are not permitted in buildings.

How Do I Join In?

The event will take place at the co-ordinates behind the big shed in the Stanthorpe Showgrounds in High Street. Take note of the entry and parking waypoints.

Please be sure to add a Will Attend log if you're thinking of coming along. This will also keep you on the list for future announcements. And if you can, please note the number of adults and children in your log.

Can I Camp On-Site?

Yes! Camping is available on-site for Saturday night! It can not be booked through the Showgrounds directly, only through the CO as the event organiser. To book and pay for a campsite, click the button below.

Sites are $25 unpowered, $35 powered.
What's in Stanthorpe?

Here's a promotional video I made for Stanthorpe back in 2014. The number of geocaches has changed - but the scenery and attractions remain just as magnificent.
