Penguin Island Experience - Community Celebration Event 2025

When: Sunday 19th October 2025

When: 10:30am-12:30pm

Getting There:

Penguin Island is located approximately 750m off the coast of Rockingham. You can take your own kayak/boat/watercraft - the most common method is to kayak across, which is the intention of this event. Alternatively, there are commercial ferries that operate services to/from the island (fees apply) which are suitable for people in wheelchairs and parents with prams. 
 

People have previously walked across the sandbar, which the parks and wildlife service do not recommend due to strong rips, currents, and rapidly changing conditions. 

Facilties:

Please note there is no shops or cafes on Penguin Island, do please plan accordingly and BYO food and drinks. There are no BBQ facilities and open flame or gas BBQs are prohibited on the island. There is a shaded picnic area on the island (where the event is being held)

Activities & Attractions:

There is a network of boardwalks and lookouts on the island which has been voted one of WA's top nature trails. The island is home to a number of birds and newborn chicks are often spotted between September and October. The island is popular amongst kayakers, SUP users, snorkelers and swimmers.
