SideTracked 2024 - Kuranda Station - 17th Anniversary
About SideTracked Caches
This cache belongs to the SideTracked series. It is not designed to take you to a magical place with a breath taking view. It's a distraction for the weary traveller, but anyone else can go and find it too. More Information can be found on the SideTracked Series website at www.sidetrackedseries.info

Kuranda was first settled in 1885 and surveyed by Thomas Behan in 1888. Construction of the railway from Cairns to Myola (later Cairns to Herberton) began in 1887 and the line reached Kuranda in 1891. The first passengers travelled on the train on 25th June 1891. Many lives were lost during the construction of the line with its 15 hand made tunnels and 37 bridges which take the train from sea level to a height of 328 metres above sea level. The track is 37 km long. It ceased being a passenger train and became a tourist train in 1936.
