Nové Zámky sú športové mesto, okrem známeho futbalového experta boli nosnou športovou témou hádzanári a samozrejme hokejisti. A hoci hokej v Nových Zámkoch oslávil už 85 rokov od svojho vzniku, začiatky boli ťažké nakoľko v tom čase bola najbližšia umelá ľadová plocha v Nitre, za ľadom sa muselo cestovať. Takýto stav trval až do roku 1974, kedy bola vybudovaná umelá ľadová plocha i v Nových Zámkoch. Koncom sedemdesiatych rokov sa začali formovať aj družstvá starších a mladších žiakov. Boli vytvorené školské športové strediská. Začiatkom osemdesiatych rokov sa umelá ľadová plocha začala postupne zastrešovať a objekt dostával tvár zimného štadióna. Po rôznym zmenách vznikol v roku 2011 HC Nové Zámky a začal svoju cestu v 2HL. Ale až víťazstvo v MOL Lige (nadnárodnej súťaži klubov) nasamerovalo klub tam kam vždy chcel patriť - do Extraligy kde sa s väčšími ale skôr s menšími úspechmi nachádza dodnes.
