唐僖宗乾符三年(876)剑南西川节度使高骈筑成都罗城，引河水过城北转东。河道在转东时形成一个急湾。河水流速急增，船行至此，便呈先后追逐的猛势，所以人们称这段河道为猛追湾。
In the year 876, the 3rd year of Qianfu Tangxizong, Gao Pian, the General of Xichuan Jiannan, built the moat of Chengdu to lead the river to turn east through the north of the city. The river formed a sharp current when turning east, which accelerated the river flow. When the boats came here, they chased after each other fiercely. So this river is named Mengzhuiwan.
