Affectionately known as Ike - Eisenhower, was an American military officer and statesman who served as th 34th president of the United States from 1953 - 1961. During WWII he was the Supreme Commander of the Alled Expeditionary Force in Europe and achieved the five-star rank as General of the Army. Eisenhower planned and supervised two of the most consequential military campaigns of the war:
- Operation Torch in the North Africa campaign
- Invasion of Normandy
Eisenhower was born in Denison, TX, and raised in Abilene, KS. He graduated from West Point in 1915 and married Mamie Doud. They had two sons, Following the war, Eisenhower entered the Presidential race as a Republican to block the isolationist foreign policies of Robert Taft, who opposed NATO. Eisenhower won that election in a landslide and won again in 1956.
