Geocache Description:

Hiking #2
The John A. Hogg ~ Kensington Public Forest features 2.4 km of hiking trails and 0.7 km of ski trails that run through Acadian forest and grassland habitat. The trail system totals 14.9 hectares and is located adjacent to the Confederation Trail, 1 km south of Route #2 in Kensington and 1.7 km north of Route #107.

Much of the property includes Acadian forest species such as maple, birch, American beech, scattered red oak, white pine and eastern hemlock. To date, 94 plant species have been identified on the site, including the Christmas fern which is uncommon to PEI. The lands form part of the upper reaches of the Barbara Weit River.

This is a two (2) cache, 4 km, 1 hour hiking series accessed off of the Confederation Trail. The trail can be buggy in the spring and summer. It offers good snowshoeing and 0.7 km of ski trails during the winter. The field sections are mowed while the forested trail is single-track. Both caches should be accessible year-round.
