Here’s another 2024 hide submittal. As my K9K8 nickname indicates: I love dogs!
GRrrr. No one likes a nippy dog, let alone an out-right biter! As a dog groomer, I have many stories about prior dog bites. I have a novel waiting to happen, but I’ll spare you for now.
General Rule: If a dog growls at you… Do NOT approach, do not offer an extended hand or arm, do not hold eye contact, ignore as best as possible and move on in the direction most logical to you.
Owners of dogs that are prone to bite unfamiliar faces are responsible for their dog’s demeanor and behavior. Many rescued dogs have prior memories of their preadoption experiences that they will never forget despite how much love we give them. If your dog isn’t friendly with strangers, try to socialize them, but be in control and warn others not to touch them. It’s really a toss up as to whether any traumatized pet can get over their learned defensive behavior.
Always keep your guard up when geocaching or socializing with animals of any kind.
