Geocache Description:

05 September 2024, 17:30 - 18:30

This is the story of the shortest year in history.
Prior to 1752 the British Empire used the Julian calendar. In 1752 the British Empire decided to convert from the Julian calendar and adopt the Gregorian calendar. Unfortunately the 2 calendars did not match up exactly. In fact, they are 11 days off. To fix the problem the  Parliament decided to cancel September 3-13. This meant that British citizens( including the US colonies) would go to sleep on Wednesday, September 2nd and wake up the next day on Thursday, September 14th!!
This move aligned the UK and the future USA,  to the rest of Europe, who were already using the Gregorian calendar. However the 11 Lost days drew the ire of some British citizens, leading to the 'Give us our 11 days' riots.
In the end the year 1752 only had 355 days. Even though there were 11 lost days, this was a leap year.

Event Caches last at least 30 minutes and are open to anyone. We will post the event for 1 hour, We will probably be there early and stay a bit later if things go as usual. (Bragging rights to whoever gets there first.)

 

 Plan to share stories and photos of any caches you may have found lately. Found a new favorite? Gone on any trips? Anything planned for the future? Need a hint on a pesky puzzle?
