Hallo und Glückauf,
Willkommen beim LWL-Museum Henrichshütte. Die Hütte wird 1854 von hatten Graf Henrich zu Stolberg-Wernigerode gegründet. Kohle- und Eisenstein im Ruhrtal haben den Unternehmer aus dem Harz nach Westfalen gelockt, ganz zum Unmut der lokalen Bevölkerung, die die Umweltverschmutzung der Industrie fürchtet.
Der Standort in Hattingen hat einen Nachteil. Die Ruhr, über die zusätzliche Eisenerze nach Hattingen gebracht und die Produkte der Hütte zum Kunden geliefert werden sollen, ist nicht durchgehend schiffbar. Ein direkter Eisenbahnanschluss kommt erst Jahre später. Die Grafen zu Stolberg-Wernigerode können die nötigen Investitionen bald nicht mehr bereitstellen. 1857 geht die Henrichshütte an das Finanzunternehmen Disconto-Gesellschaft, die die Hütte 1872 mit der Dortmunder Hütte und dem Hüttenunternehmen Neu-Schottland zusammenfasst. Die Union legt 1873 ein Bessemer-Stahlwerk an. Damit kann die Henrichshütte erstmals auch in großem Stil Stahl herstellen.
Doch der Standort bleibt problematisch und die Besitzer wechseln häufig. 1904 geht die Hütte an den Lokomotivhersteller Henschel, 1930 zur Ruhrstahl, 1963 zu Rheinstahl und 1974 schließlich zu Thyssen. Ab 1984 werden nach und nach Anlagen stillgelegt. 1987 wird der letzte Hochofen gegen den erbitterten Widerstand der Bevölkerung ausgeblasen.
Auf einem Teil des Werksgeländes entsteht ein Gewerbepark. Ein Hochofen, das Bessemer-Stahlwerk und weitere Werkshallen werden erhalten und 2000 als LWL-Industriemuseum Henrichshütte öffentlich zugänglich.

Welcome to the LWL Museum Henrichshütte. The ironworks are founded in 1854 by Count Henrich zu Stolberg-Wernigerode. Coal and iron ore in the Ruhr Valley lure the entrepreneur from the Harz Mountains to Westphalia, much to the displeasure of the local population, who fear the pollution caused by the industry.
The location in Hattingen has one disadvantage. The Ruhr, via which additional iron ore is to be brought to Hattingen and the smelter's products delivered to customers, is not navigable throughout. A direct railway connection does not come until years later. The Counts zu Stolberg-Wernigerode are soon no longer able to provide the necessary investment. In 1857, Henrichshütte is sold to the financial company Disconto-Gesellschaft, which merges the ironworks with Dortmunder Hütte and the ironworks company Neu-Schottland in 1872. The Union establishes a Bessemer Steelworks in 1873. This enables Henrichshütte to produce steel on a large scale for the first time.
However, the location remains problematic and ownership changes frequently. In 1904, the steelworks went to the locomotive manufacturer Henschel, in 1930 to Ruhrstahl, in 1963 to Rheinstahl and finally in 1974 to Thyssen. From 1984 onwards, plants are gradually shut down. In 1987, the last blast furnace is blown out in the face of fierce resistance from the local population.
A business park is created on part of the factory site. A blast furnace, the Bessemer steelworks and other factory buildings are preserved and opened to the public in 2000 as the LWL Industrial Museum Henrichshütte.
