One of our Grandmothers grew up on the farm just north of here. The following is taken from "Treasured Memories", the History book from the St. Benedict/Reynaud area:
'Katie (Kuemper) Altrogge was the second child of Gerhard and Josephine Kuemper. She was born March 1, 1890 in Altona, Iowa. At age 13 she quit school to help her parents on a farm they had rented, but due to flooding, cyclones, etc. they decided to take up a homestead in Canada in St. Peter's Colony, Muenster. There she did a man's work, breaking land with a walking plow pulled by mules and horses. In the winter she and her younger brother, John, cut wood seven miles from home in the bitter cold. Their lunch would be frozen and after they each had a load they would return home, numb from the cold and they very much appreciated the nice hot stove and the good hot meal their mother had prepared for them. Katie helped her mother do laundry at the Monestery. After that she became Father Benedict's housekeeper, a position she held for ten years, beginning in Hoodoo, then St, Benedict, and the last four years at Humboldt until she married Herman Altrogge in 1919.'
Katie and Herman settled and farmed in St. Benedict area - the community where both M & M grew up in.
This should be an easy Park and a very short walk to GZ. This is an all weather road that is not all that busy, so you should not have any difficulty here. Do pull over when needed and use your 2 way flashers when necessary. Enjoy!!
