"Talk Like a Pirate Day" is celebrated this year on Thursday, 19th September, 2024. We are celebrating a little early on Sunday, 15th September, at 11:00am.

International "Talk Like A Pirate Day" is a parodic holiday created in 1995 by John Baur and Mark Summers of Albany, Oregon, who proclaimed the 19th September each year as the day when everyone in the world should talk like a pirate. (That is, in English with a stereotypical West Country accent.)
The holiday resulted from a sports injury. During a raquetball game between Summers and Baur, one of them in pain said "Aaarrr" and the idea was born.

The event will be held on Dunkey Island at Budgewoi. The event is free for everyone. There are public toilets, picnic tables, a children's playground and BBQs for use, as well as a variety of food outlets nearby if required. Dogs are allowed on leash.
Ahoy, me hearties. All ye landlubbers best be attendin'. There be booty to pillage 'n plunder. Watch out fer the Cap'n or you may be forced to walk the plank.
We will be holding some games on the day. So come along and have some fun. Feel free to dress up in your pirate attire and bring a plate of goodies to share. We hope to see you there.
