This Children's Park started out as an empty space with a broken blacktop and weeds poking out of the cracks. Fast forward to 2024 and it is an Oasis for the Children of Harpers Ferry and visitors alike!
In August of 2022, it all started with a letter to the Mayor of Harpers Ferry from 9-year old Avery. She asked for assistance in a few key areas: new playground equipment, for the area to be landscaped so there weren't prickly bushes to get soccer balls stuck in, and most importantly, a place where ALL kids could come to play. Her ideas outlined a wider sidewalk that a wheelchair/stroller could navigate, playground equipment that could appeal to children of all abilities, and an adaptable swing to be added to the set for those with special needs.
Over the course of 2 years, the community rallied together to make the Harpers Ferry Children's Park a reality. There were hours of fundraising efforts, donations, park clean-ups and weekend projects to care for our park. Fast forward to July of 2024 and the park has been reimagined! This cache is being placed so all visitors can stop by, leave or take a token and enjoy Avery's Appalachian Oasis.
